Re-invented resort brings Bali to the Whitsundays

Bali might still be off limits to Australian travellers, but for people wanting a tropical escape there’s a chance to experience a piece of paradise safely right here at home. Paradise Cove Resort in the Whitsundays is due to re-open on Tuesday, September 1, and for operators Asher and Julie Telford, it’s an exciting new start. “We can honestly say Paradise Cove is better than Bali,” Julie Telford said. “It’s more of a retreat than a typical resort, and with only eight villas on a 4,000-acre property, you can’t get more secluded than that.” “Wow” is the word most people use when they reach the resort. Set in stunning Woodwark Bay, Paradise Cove is where rainforest-clad hills meet the Coral Sea. After passing through a gated entrance, the world-weary traveller is transported down a private road, past a freshwater lake and through Australian bush. The road then winds to a crest, where panoramic views of the Whitsunday coast and islands await. Journey’s end is the resort itself, set in lush, green gardens, complete with swaying coconut palms, a sweeping arc of white-sand beach, and open ocean rejuvenating the guest’s tired feet. The Balinese décor of the central, thatched pavilion and pool, is echoed in the private villas, all complete with a bathing experience to rival any spa. “All villas now have our signature outdoor bathrooms, which guests continually tell us is one of the highlights of their stay,” Asher Telford explains. “From the journey, to the arrival, to the relaxing soak surrounded by nature, you come to realise you’ve travelled to a truly special place. “Photos don’t even do it justice – when you finally arrive at the bay, the peace and tranquillity will take your breath away.” Operated by the Telfords since October 2015, Paradise Cove was previously a highly successful international travel product, at one stage favoured by the likes of Hollywood A-lister Nicole Kidman. Travel restrictions imposed through Covid-19 have given the Telfords an opportunity to re-invent their offering for a domestic market, which Julie says they feel privileged to have achieved. “We’re really excited to be showcasing this incredible place to Australians now, and it’s made us realise how perfect it is for people wanting this type of experience closer to home,” she said. Formerly adults-only, the resort now caters for families with children over 12, with its two-bedroom villa that can sleep up to six. For those wanting that little bit extra, there are two deluxe villas set apart from the rest, or alternatively the new, ‘glamping’ tent, set just back from the beach. Paddle boarding, kayaking, tennis courts, and a beach-side fire pit are all provided on site, stargazing under the milky way proving a popular activity by night. Meals are included in the price, with lunch and dinner served in the restaurant and breakfast a picnic hamper to be enjoyed in the location of choice. Guests can even add on a day trip, with the Telfords’ double national award-winning Red Cat Adventures ‘Thundercat’ tour, departing at 8.15am daily from the resort. “Paradise Cove Resort is Eco Tourism Australia-accredited as a climate action leading business, which is important to us and many of our guests,” Julie said. “Being where we are in the beautiful Whitsundays at the heart of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, we are proud to play such a major role in showcasing and preserving this environment, both now and for generations to come.” To celebrate the re-opening of the resort, special introductory packages are available from Tuesday, with three nights in a Twin-King Villa, costing $1,595 per person (twin share), inclusive of all meals, transfers, and Thundercat day trip. Include return flights with Alliance Airlines from Brisbane for an additional $350 per person. The entire resort is also available for private hire at $9999 per night, making it the ideal getaway for small groups, exclusive events and for families to reconnect.
