Liz and Mitch

The Love Story Begins:

We met in June 2011 at a music festival in Hyde Park, London.

The Question gets Popped: 

We were driving a camper van around Iceland. Mitchell proposed at dusk on October 6th 2017 at Fjalsàrlon Glacier Lagoon. That night we camped at Diamond Beach which is covered in black sand and ice washed up from Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon.

How and why did you decide on a destination wedding? And why the Whitsundays?

We both wanted somewhere our friends and family from around the world could come and be together with us for a week, for some of our guests it was their first time to Australia so we really wanted a location that would make a fantastic holiday for them.

How did you decide our wedding venue? 

We were looking for something very specific, it took a long time and we virtually searched every wedding venue across Australia. Liz had a vision of the bushland, something she craves, as spent her childhood in East Gippsland, there was a longing to feel that nostalgia of where she came from and Mitch wanted the ceremony to be on a beach. It was so hard to find a venue that had both beautiful bushland and beachfront, especially with privacy of having the entire property. When we first saw photos of Paradise Cove we knew instantly that we wanted to get married there. 

What inspired your day? Did you have a wedding day vision?

We were very inspired by the venue. Liz found the lace for her dress in Rome and chose it based on the colours of the bush and water surrounding Paradise Cove. Mitchells fabric for his tailor made jacket was hand chosen to match the colours of the thatched roof on the main house at the venue. Everything else including the flowers, decor, food and lighting was to reflect and enhance the venues natural elements. The bouquets were all native and seasonal, the food was locally sourced and the decor was minimalistic as we felt the nature surrounding the venue spoke for itself. Ultimately we wanted to create an environment for ourselves and our guests where we could all relax, free flow throughout the afternoon and evening. We didn’t want seating arrangements or a fancy dance floor. We just wanted it to feel romantic and dimly lit under the palm trees and stars.

What’s the one thing you recommend couples invest in for their big day? 

Without a doubt it is our greatest treasures are our photographs and video of our wedding day. Only two years on, but I know many years later when we look back on them our feelings and memories of our wedding day will remain strong. People tell you how quickly the day goes, and ours really did fly by. But looking back at the photos and video I feel like I can relive moments over and over.

Most memorable moment? 

As cheesy as it sounds, the truth is we both agree that seeing each other at opposite ends of the aisle was the single most precious moment. You spend so much time and money on every aspect of your wedding day and to look back and treasure the moment you locked eyes is priceless.

Any funny stories or mishaps? 

The page boys had been strictly told to hand the rings to Uncle Mitch and Aunty Liz so when the celebrant asked for the rings and opened her hand for them, the boys got confused and didn’t want to give them up to her without some convincing. We have the photos of them running up to look at the rings on our fingers with glee after the ceremony. 

Do you have any unique wedding tips to help the day run smoothly?  

Less is more, when making choices about what to include in your wedding, ensure that it’s what you want and not what you think others might be expecting. 

Did you honeymoon, where and for how long!? 

We had a few days mini mooning on Hamilton Island right after the wedding then a few months later we went to South Africa for a couple of weeks.

What would you recommend as the “Top Things to Do” in the Whitsundays whilst you were here for your wedding?

Try the mud crab at Fish D’Vine, visit the pure quartz sands of Whitehaven Beach, have a champagne picnic on One Tree Hill Hamilton Island, have a treatment at Spa Qualia Hamilton Island and sail on yacht Alani for the day.
